3 Day tour to the Isle of Skye and the Highlands
Our 3-day tour to the Isle of Skye* is the ideal way to explore the Scottish Highlands and discover one of its most famous islands. The perfect addition to a trip to Edinburgh to experience the true Scottish Highlands. The tour includes well-known places such as the Glencoe Valley, Loch Ness, Eilean Donan Castle, Dunvegan Castle, Portree, Inverness, Pitlochry and many more.
Day 1: Glencoe Valley – Fort William – Isle of Skye
Our meeting point will be 190 High Street, Edinburgh. We will depart from here at 8:00 a.m. After passing the historic city of Stirling, we will drive through the town of Callander, where we hope to catch a glimpse of the famous Highland cows. Soon after, the breathtaking scenery of the Highlands will come into view, but we will first make a stop for coffee. We will continue on our way and pass by Loch Garry, taking in its beauty.
Our next stop will be the stunning Glencoe Valley, where you’re sure to fall in love with the magnificent views. From there, we will head to Fort William, a small yet important town, where we will also make a stop, so you can discover its history.
From Fort William, we will set off on the last stretch of the journey before reaching the Isle of Skye. On our way, we will make a stop at a viewpoint for some breathtaking views of Loch Duich, before heading to Glenfinnan, where we will enjoy the beautiful views from the famous aqueduct after appearing in the Harry Potter world.
Before reaching the isle of Skye and our accommodation, we will do a photostop at Eilean Donan Castle.
Day 2: Dunvegan Castle – Portree – Trotternish Peninsula
The next day, we will leave after breakfast and head to Dunvegan Castle*, the home of the Chief of Clan Macleod. Here, we will make a stop so that we can visit the Castle and admire its sea views.
Next, we will continue on to the charming fishing village of Portree. Choose from many walking routes and visit the town centre and its surroundings. We will also have time for lunch here. That afternoon, we will head north to the stunning landscapes of Trotternish. This peninsula is home to the Quiraing landslip, the spectacular Kilt Rock waterfall and the Old Man of Storr – a rocky hill steeped in history – where we will stop to take some photos. Heading back to Kyleakin, you can soak up the fantastic views of the famous Cuillin mountain range and the dramatic valleys of the Isle of Skye.
Admission to Dunvegan Castle is not included in the price of the tour:
• Castle and gardens: £14 for adults/£11 for over 60s/£9 for children aged between 5 and 15/free for children under 5.
*Due to the new COVID-19 restrictions, in case it is not possible to visit Dunvegan castle, we will do an alternative route to Neist Point.
Day 3: Loch Ness – Inverness – Pitlochry – Edinburgh
On the final day of the tour, we will return to Edinburgh.
But first, after departing from Kyleakin and before the first stop of the day on the shores of Loch Ness, we will cross the impressive landscape of the Five Sisters of Kintail. When we arrive at Loch Ness, you’ll have the chance to take a boat trip on what is probably the most famous lake in the world. Afterwards, we will make a stop in Inverness, where you can explore the capital of the Highlands and have lunch.
The boat trip is not included in the price of the tour:

On the last leg of the tour, we will stop to fill the vehicle up with petrol in Pitlochry, before heading to the Hermitage. This magical forest is home to the giant Douglas fir tree, known for its remarkable height. It is here, in this spectacular natural setting, where the River Braan and its powerful rapids flow. Steeped in history, those who love traditions and legends will be delighted to hear the most magical tales of this haven.
Arrival at Hanover Street (New Town, Edinburgh)
We will return to Edinburgh via the Forth Bridge over the Firth of Forth at around 7:00 p.m., having seen and enjoyed the best and most remarkable parts of Scotland.

Day 1: Glencoe Valley – Fort William – Isle of Skye

We will also make a stop at this small, yet important town, so you can discover its history and have lunch.
From Fort William, we will set off on the last stretch of the journey before reaching the Isle of Skye. On our way, we will stop at the Commando Memorial, where you can gaze at some of the best views of Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the United Kingdom. We will then also make a brief stop at Eilean Donan Castle for a unique historical experience as the sun sets.
That evening, we will stay in the village of Kyleakin or in the surrounding area, and enjoy a good night’s rest in the silence and tranquillity of the Highlands.
Day 2: Dun Beag Broch – Neist Point – Portree – Trotternish Peninsula
Our first stop after breakfast will be the Isle of Skye’s most impressive and well-known mountain range, the Cuillins, featuring its red and black mountains. We will continue our tour with a visit to the ruins of Dun Beag Broch, an impressive stone fort built around 2,000 years ago. Before leaving, we will visit one of the most charming parts of the island: Neist Point and its lighthouse. This stop on the westernmost point of the island boasts spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean.
Next, we will continue on to the charming fishing village of Portree. Choose from many walking routes and visit the charming town centre. We will also have time for lunch here. In the afternoon, we will continue north to the stunning landscapes of the Trotternish Peninsula.Experience the Fairy Glen with its otherworldly landscape, the Quiraing landslip, the spectacular Kilt Rock waterfall and the Old Man of Storr – a rocky hill steeped in history.

Day 3: Loch Ness – Inverness – Pitlochry – Edinburgh
The last day will be dedicated to some of Scotland’s most iconic sights before returning to Edinburgh.
We will have the chance to visit two of the most impressive castles in the Highlands: Eilean Donan Castle and Urquhart Castle. Before stopping on the shores of Loch Ness, we will visit Eilean Donan Castle. This is an unmissable stop on your visit to Scotland, so be sure to bring a camera. Next up on this exciting tour is the magnificent Urquhart Castle, which is sure to delight, surprise and astonish. Located on the shores of Loch Ness, this historical location was witness to the conflict during the Jacobite Risings.
After exploring these idyllic locations, we will follow the road up to the capital of the Highlands: Inverness. Here, you’ll have time to explore this town on the banks of the River Ness and grab a bite to eat. On the last leg of our tour, we will make a stop in Pitlochry, a charming Victorian town in the county of Perthshire.
*Important: it will not be possible to visit Eilean Donan Castle on some specific tours. Please check with the ViajarporEscocia.com team regarding the affected dates and the available alternative.
