Get Ready for Your Trip to the UK! How to Obtain Your Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA)

Are you planning a getaway to the Scottish lands? Great! But before you start dreaming about Edinburgh, the Loch Ness Monster and haggis, there’s a new requirement you need to know about: the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA).

Don’t worry—getting it is easier than it sounds. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to apply for your ETA and ensure your trip to the UK goes smoothly:

What is the ETA?

The ETA is a digital travel permit linked to your passport. Starting in 2025, most travellers who do not require a visa to enter the UK (including European Union citizens) will need to obtain an ETA before their trip.

You can find general information in English at the following link:
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/apply-for-an-electronic-travel-authorisation-eta

Check if you need a visa instead at this link: https://www.gov.uk/check-uk-visa

How to Apply?

  1. Gather the necessary information: You will need your passport, travel details (dates, purpose of visit), and a credit or debit card to pay the fee.
  2. Visit the official website: The application is done online through the UK government’s official app.
Apply for an ETA. Below are the links to download the app:

  3. Fill in the form: Follow the instructions and answer all questions accurately.
  4. Pay the fee: The ETA costs £10 per person.
  5. Wait for confirmation: Most applications are approved within 3 working days. You will receive confirmation by email.

Important Tips:

Apply for your ETA in advance: Don’t leave it until the last minute. It is recommended to apply at least 1 week before your trip.
Check your information carefully: Ensure that all details provided in your application are correct.
Print a copy of the confirmation: Although the ETA is electronically linked to your passport, it’s recommended to carry a printed copy just in case.
Verify the requirements for your nationality: The implementation dates of the ETA vary by nationality. Be sure to check the specific information for your country. List of countries who can apply for an ETA.

And that’s it! With your ETA approved, you’re one step closer to enjoying your trip to the UK.

Safe travels!
